Nneka to perform in Nairobi at TreeHouse Westlands on 4th February 2012

Nneka – A Nigerian-German Hiphop and Soul Singer

Nneka Lucia Egbuna better known as just Nneka will be in Nairobi for a show at Tree House (next to former Club Afrique) in Westlands on 4th February starting at 7pm.

Goethe Institut – Nairobi in partnership with Spark Africa and Tree House will be hosting this multi -talented singer and rapper with Dan Chizi Aceda as the Curtain raiser.

There will be an after party with DJ Zelalem. The event tickets will cost Ksh. 500 and they are available at the Goethe Institut offices at Maendeleo House (just next to Alliance Francais).

Barbara Reich, the Goethe Institut Nairobi Cultural Programmes coordinator was pleasantly surprised when I got in touch with her seeking more information on Nneka’s visit. Its amazing that her music reached the Kenyan audience via the internet as not any of her songs have received any radio play prior to her planned visit.

Nneka is a Nigerian- German Hip Hop soul singer whose hit track ‘Africans’ from her first album ‘Victim of Truth’. I got to know of Nneka’s music around the same time as Ayo also a Nigerian born soul singer.

Nneka is expected in the country for a show on the 4th of February just before headlining the Sauti za Busara Festival in Zanzibar happening early February.

Our good friend Buddha Blaze who is well connected in the events circles especially where hiphop is concerned confirmed this information on his twitter page.

Nneka so far has 4 albums; Victim of Truth, No Longer at Ease (no guessing who inspired that title) Soul is heavy and the latest Concrete Jungle which are a blend of R&B, soul, funk, reggae, dub, hip-hop, world music, folk, pop and rock.

Her style is unique through her voice which is forceful, and her lyrics that wants to tell you something about the world and about the way we threat each other. She has an agenda and in a way she falls in the long tradition of singers who wants to change the world and make it a better place. She is an idealist with a message.

As we wait for the 4th with bated breath, lets brush up on some of her hits.
