Poem: When Death Calls

When death calls

with a whisper so sweet

wooing our hearts

to a place where rest

is the only desire we long for

Do we smile as we embrace it?

When death calls

with loud staccato so shrill

holding our bodies at ransom

one foot on a bed

the other on a cold sheet

do we shed a tear as it pulls?

When death calls

with melodies so sweet

turning our spirit to armor

that rises beyond our dust

do we sing along with the angels?
