TriggerFish Story Lab calling on African Writers & Directors for African Animation concepts

After the international success of its first two animated feature films Zambezia & Khumba, Triggerfish Animation Studios is establishing the Triggerfish Story Lab with the support of The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and The Walt Disney Company.

Cape Town-based Triggerfish Animation Studios has set aside $3.5m to launch The Triggerfish Story Lab to give Africa’s most talented storytellers and filmmakers the opportunity to develop their ideas alongside Triggerfish’s international network of mentors.

They are looking for storytellers with high concept, original ideas, to submit their animated stories to our panel of experts. The top entries (minimum of 6) will enter the Story Lab where you will develop your story – after which it could become Africa’s next animated hit.

The selected Story Lab participants will also receive two weeks of mentoring with key studio and television executives at Disney’s headquarters in Burbank, California.

“The Story Lab will be a great catalyst for African creativity on the global stage,” says Triggerfish CEO Stuart Forrest. “We look forward to opening up the Triggerfish production platform and our networks to the continent’s top creative talent.”

The storytellers will then develop their content from the studios for the global market. The studio is working with The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and The Walt Disney Company and both local and international experts, including British director and co-founder of Aardman Peter Lord, Hollywood writer Jonathan Roberts and script consultant Karl Iglesias, South African storyteller Gcina Mhlope, comedian David Kau and Triggerfish’s development team and Pilar Alessandra.

Triggerfish will provide financial support, workspace, and expert guidance by internal and international consultants and mentors, as well as a route to market through top-tier relationships with Hollywood agency William Morris Endeavor.

So if you are a writer or director and a citizen or a permanent resident of any African country, then enter online by the 31st August, 2015.
