International Jazz Day is the culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month (April) which draws public attention to jazz and its extraordinary heritage.
For the first time in Kenya, the International Jazz Day brings together more than 8 Kenyan Jazz bands, Kenyan jazz enthusiasts, the international Community and corporate partners in celebrating Jazz in Kenya.
International Jazz day at the tree house on 30th April will be hosted by Musician June Gachui and Radio host Jack Ojiambo with live performances from Chris Bittok, Joseph Hellon, Christine Kamau, Different Faces, Christine Kamau Zack Amunga, Ricky na Marafiki Mwai, Kaima Mwiti, Watu Weusi, Jack Asiyo, The Usual Suspects, Kavutha Mwanzia Asiyo among others. Dj Njukey will be the on the decks.
In November 2011, UNESCO officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. International Jazz Day is chaired and led by Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director General, and legendary jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, who serves as a UNESCO Ambassador.
The event will start from 6.30 pm with tickets going for Ksh. 1,000 available at the door.
