The 32nd edition of Blanket & Wine went down a couple of weeks ago with a star studded line up.
It’s worth noting how big this event has become now four years since inception. That is, in terms of the caliber of artists and corporate sponsorship it’s been able to attract so far. And all this was evident in the grandeur and color that was in full display at the event.
From all the happenings in and around the grounds; with some playing football, others enjoying their drinks under a tent, others strutting around in skimpy shorts and dresses and others dancing, the music was rolling on to everyone’s delight.
First up on stage was Christine Kamau, “The Jazzist”, as the lead on trumpet, backed by alto and tenor Saxophone, bass guitar, guitar and keyboard. She’s a composer and multi-instrumentalist and holds a lot of promise. Her performance featured tracks from her yet-to-be-released debut album ’This is for you’.
She’s set to launch the album later next month at the Michael Joseph Centre, Safaricom House. Be sure to be there. She sure is going places.
Next up was the sharp, distinct voice of Antoneosoul who got the crowd fired up and dancing with his popular song “Chips Funga”.
He was followed up by the mellow, soulful voice of Atemi.
Finally the show-stopper, the lady of the moment, all the way from South Africa, the beautiful Miss Lira got on stage to a powerful performance. With great vocals and a band that was truly “in it” and having fun at the same time they gave a superb performance. She’s, no doubt, a great entertainer. Miss Lira masterfully fusions elements of Afro-jazz, RnB and Soul into her music then adds a-live-stage-performance punch that got the crowd excited and dancing to her very tune.
