Akokhan by Frank Odoi
In celebrating the life of Frank Odoi, there will be an Exhibition and Public Sale of his most famous works Akokhan as well as his previously published artwork such as Golgoti, The Male Syndrome Comics, Single Frame Cartoons and many more.
The month long exhibition will be at the Alliance Francaise Nairobi from July 15th – 19th August 2013. The Official Launch Cocktail and Public Auction will be on Tuesday 16 July 6.30 pm in the main atrium.
There will also be A video documentary screening on “The Life and Times of Frank Odoi”.
About Frank Odoi
Frank Odoi settled in Kenya over 30 years ago from his native Ghana.
His work has appeared in various newspapers in the East African region
including The Daily Naton, The Standard,The Starand The Daily Monitor.His comics have also been published in Finland. One of the most celebrated of his works is Akokhan, the “Sword and Sorcery” comics series that ran in Kenyan newspapers and found a home at Kenway Publishers as a book. This is what defined him as a peer of the great comics artists of Europe and West Africa and from which this exhibition draws its title.
Tragic Death
Frank died on April 21, 2012, in a traffic accident in Nairobi when he was just embarking on several more publishing projects and just after the Kenya Government had finally granted him citizenship. He left behind a widow, Monicah Carol, three daughters, Maureen, Francesca and Francine, and four young grandchildren. The artist’s original artworks and digital prints are being offered for sale to the art and culture loving public with the proceeds going to his family for the education of his grandchildren.
What will be on offer
On offer are several originals and digital copies of some of the works he produced over the last three decades. The event also features a 50-minute video documentary, The Life and Times of Frank Odoi, that contains amazing never seen before archival footage of the late artist.
