Feature Artist: Iyeoka Okoawo- A poet, singer, activist

I discovered Iyeoka recently through, not her poetry, but through her music thanks to the Capital Jazz club group on FB. Her music caught my eye only for me to discover that she started out as a Poet. Needless to say, I fell in love with her poetry more whilst still in awe that she could transcend both forms of art with such ease.

Iyeoka is a Nigerian American who has won numerous Poetry Slams, A recording artist, an activist, educater and a TEDGlobal Fellow having appeared and performed in the annual TED Global event.

As we warm up to the June POWO meetup which is on Art & Protest, I found Iyeoka’s poem on ‘Revolution’ quite befitting. Also sample a video of her song ‘Falling’ from her latest album Say Yes.
